Ear Wax Press Release

Earwax is a live music event held in south east London exhibiting cutting-edge Live Music, Artwork and Home-Made Cuisine. We aim to be the Platform for established and up and coming live artists and DJ’s, particularly in Jazz, Funk, Soul and Hip Hop.
Our aim is to network, help fund the non-commercial music scene and support the artists, providing a hub of creativity with interactive and personal elements to each event.
We are all about good vibes and respect for the music.

Acts include:

DIE! DIE! DIE!

Die! Die! Die! are a punk three-piece from New Zealand formed in late 2003. Their music has been described as being abrasive, noisy and rough with a strong emphasis on the rhythm section within the band. The band are renowned for incessantly touring internationally since they began, focusing their efforts in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and USA (especially New York), and brief travels through Europe. The band’s live shows have become infamous for their energy and front man Andrew Wilson’s tendency to use the entire venue, climbing and writhing around the audience, with microphone in hand.

LITTLANS:

As befits a band who’s had a U.K. hit dueting with Peter Doherty (on the sublime single “Their Way”), Littl’ans is no stranger to chaos. Its last British tour saw gigs canceled thanks to, amongst other things, an exploding gas canister and a double booking with 80s legend Echo and the Bunnymen. When it supported Babyshambles, it was subjected to the indignities of the rubber glove treatment after the bus it was travelling on was raided for drugs by the police. (The band was later released without charges.) Yet, Littl’ans, whose name is Cockney vernacular meaning “Little Ones,” soldiers on gallantly. After all, in rock and roll the chaos is part of the deal. Four in number - singer and guitarist Andrew Aveling, drummer Ben Clarke, guitarist Alex Mahood and bassist Ryan Blagrove. These days, Littl’ans erractically traverses the country playing doo-wop-influenced pop with the dazed, dark charm of a Syd Barrett or a Nick Drake. It’s suprisingly delicate music for such a hard-living band - but then romance often exists in squalor.”

words by Alex Needham, deputy editor at NME magazine,

PRETTY SUSPECTS:

The Pretty Suspects bring with them a dark optimism and bitter sweet melding of genres from the stylistic gene pools of influences past. One has to listen to grasp, but such should always be the case. The Pretty Suspects are not ones to let the unwritten boundaries that come with genre labels dictate the creative process. In the end, words are for journalists, let the music speak. One of the newest & exciting prospects to emerge from the indie music scene in years. The industries lips are talking.

KARAKATOA:

Finally, a rock ‘n’ roll band is here to reignite today’s music scene. The pissed off and bored generation are crying out for a band that has got something to say, whose songs they can relate to, a band to represent them. There hasn’t been anyone with such conviction since The Clash. It’s time for someone to lead the way into a new era. Enter Krakatoa. Having just secured the Ben Sherman campaign & their debut single ‘Rock n Roll Revolution’out now, the future is bright.

FICTION:

This band one of the newest on the south London scene, have been spreading their post punk beats & rhythms to the the capital as a whole. Reputations are being forged, with a ear for a pop melody, and explosive live performances, this band are going to be heard far and wide. Think Gang of Four meets Supergrass

POST WAR YEARS DJ:
Fresh from a world where Pears Cyclopaedias, symmetry and geometric shapes are still the new thang come Post War Years. More idiosyncratic than their moniker suggests, PWY have been ensconced in their east London ex-Russian warehouse/hairdressing salon (no, really) since forever, so it’s useful that ‘The Greats And The Happening’ greets us blinking like the jaded lights on an 808. The dj set set will be far and wide into the outer space.

TOM FROG DJ:

One of London’s movers and shakers on the alternative club scene for many years now. One of the famous FROG crew, which ruled the London indie scene for half a decade at the now closed London Astoria. With a DJ set than can encompass music from anywhere on the planet from any decade of musical history this one man party, will be in south London to bring us the best and the most of his record coleection. Good times garanteed.

Blood Awful Poetry DJ:

The boys behind B.A.P, will be joining the F.L.U crew at the launch of this new south London venture into the unknown. With a established & respected club night that deals in poetry and great bands, the boys will be spinning everything from the world of indie and more.
